The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
