The President Invites Families of Shot Military Members to the White House
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The president said he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the administration to halt asylum applications and cease issuing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
