The Actress States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has admitted freely about voting for both Republican and Democratic contenders in past elections. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “because I feel she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will make every effort to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of the former president as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was underscored by the outcome.
“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress about Trump’s presidency. “Since he stated his intentions. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her mental health in rural Montana. Speaking at a media event for the movie in the film festival, she commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor sought to redirect outrage about the situation to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 arts community members to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in Die, My Love. While the director has disputed the story being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence said that she connected with parts of her character’s journey after the arrival of her second son, soon after shooting ended.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, about having to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
