Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
