Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Leader Exits After Move Into Chicken.

A boss of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have hit maximum pizza demand while diversifying the chain into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its governing body.

Leadership Transition

Andrew Rennie is leaving after a brief tenure in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant looks for a long-term chief.

Rennie, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had aimed to shift the UK's biggest pizza takeaway chain towards chicken offerings, stating earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed chicken was the most rapidly expanding protein in the international market.

Board Friction

Reports indicate that there was friction between Rennie and the directors over his approach and business vision, although Domino's official statement said he was departing “through mutual consent”.

New Brand Introduction

In September, the chain launched its chicken-focused brand – which the former chief referred to as a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the North West region and the province.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores next year as intended, it regards chicken products as complementary to its primary pizza operations.

Leadership Statement

The Domino's chair, the company chairman, commented: “Directors think that there are a number of opportunities to drive further growth and profitability in our primary operations. We are prioritizing finding the suitable leader to lead the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”

Market Difficulties

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said orders dipped by 1.5 percent in the latest quarter. In the summer, it alerted that the takeaway market had “intensified” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the period before the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Competitors are also struggling. Pizza Hut announced the shutting of 68 restaurants a recently, after the firm behind its British operations fell into administration.

Health Efforts

Adapting to customer preferences towards balanced diets, the company has introduced reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust selection of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and wheat-free pizzas. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A family cheese pizza has 2,171, while a individual has 909 calories.

Interim Management

The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and was formerly with the gaming group William Hill. It is understood that she is not seeking to take on the CEO position permanently.

Frampton stated: “The company has a number of active development and operational projects that we will be dedicated to executing at a rapid rate.”

Frampton noted these involved further work on the organization's supply chain and product development, and its rewards program.

Domino's is also lacking a full-time finance director until March 16, when a new appointee comes aboard from the beverage producer C&C Group. In the meantime, Richard Snow serves as acting financial officer.
