Controversial United States-funded Gaza Relief Group Terminates Relief Activities

The debated, United States and Israel-funded GHF aid organization declares it is winding down its aid operations in the Palestinian territory, after almost six months.

The organisation had previously halted its three food distribution sites in Gaza following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect six weeks ago.

The GHF aimed to circumvent United Nations channels as the primary provider of relief to Palestinian residents.

UN and other aid agencies refused to co-operate with its methodology, claiming it was unethical and unsafe.

Hundreds of Palestinians were killed while attempting to obtain sustenance amid turbulent circumstances near GHF's sites, mainly through Israeli military action, based on UN documentation.

Israel said its forces fired cautionary rounds.

Operation Conclusion

The GHF said on Monday that it was terminating work now because of the "satisfactory fulfillment of its emergency mission", with a total of three million packages containing the equivalent of more than 187 million meals delivered to Palestinians.

The GHF's executive director, the executive director, further mentioned the United States-operated coordination body - which has been established to help implement the United States' Palestinian peace proposal - would be "adopting and expanding the approach the organization demonstrated".

"The organization's system, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, had major impact in bringing Palestinian factions to negotiations and securing a halt in hostilities."

Comments and Positions

Hamas - which denies stealing aid - approved the termination of the GHF, as indicated by media.

An official from declared the foundation should be held accountable for the harm it caused to Palestinians.

"We request all international human rights organisations to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after leading to casualties and wounds of many residents and covering up the food deprivation strategy practised by the Israeli government."

Organization Timeline

The foundation started work in Gaza on May 26th, a short period subsequent to Israel had partially eased a total blockade on relief and commercial goods to Gaza that continued for 77 days and caused severe shortages of necessary provisions.

Three months later, a famine was declared in Gaza City.

The GHF's food distribution sites in various parts of the Palestinian territory were operated by American private security firms and positioned in areas controlled by Israeli forces.

Relief Agency Issues

International organizations and their affiliates stated the approach contravened the basic relief guidelines of neutrality, impartiality and independence, and that guiding distressed residents into militarised zones was fundamentally dangerous.

International human rights monitoring body stated it documented the fatalities of no fewer than 859 Gazans seeking food in the proximity to foundation locations between spring and summer months.

Another 514 people were fatally wounded around the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it also mentioned.

The greater part of these people were lost their lives due to the Israeli military, according to the office.

Divergent Narratives

Israel's armed services stated its troops had fired warning shots at persons who advanced toward them in a "threatening" way.

The organization declared there were no firearm incidents at the distribution centers and claimed the international organization of using "untrue and confusing" figures from the Palestinian health authority administered by Hamas.

Future Implications

The organization's continuation had been uncertain since Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities consented a ceasefire deal to execute the initial stage of the United States' reconciliation proposal.

It said humanitarian assistance would take place "absent meddling from the both sides through the United Nations and its agencies, and the humanitarian medical organization, in combination with other global organizations not associated in any manner" with Hamas and Israel.

International organization official the UN spokesman stated recently that the foundation's closure would have "zero effect" on its work "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the halt in hostilities began on early October, it was "not enough to address all necessities" of the 2.1 million population.
